Naples, Italy
Over the past
two and a half years, PIONEER has conducted a screening risk evaluation for the United
States Navy in the Campania Region of Italy. The
investigation was in response to concerns regarding uncontrolled
open burning of uncollected trash, and widespread dumping of waste,
including chemical and other potentially-hazardous waste in the
region. The
evaluation was recently completed, reports were
submitted, and individual letter reports are in the
process of being written for each home that was sampled during
the investigation. Project manager, Chris Waldron, just
returned from the region where he and other members of the project
team communicated risk
results with residents.
Tacoma, Washington
The PIONEER team recently completed a building demolition and surface-water sampling at a site in Tacoma, Washington. Safety has been at the forefront of this project, and our Certified Industrial Hygienist, Becky Doe, worked closely with project team members to ensure everyone's safety.
SEDIMENT GUIDANCE
PIONEER recently submitted the draft final Sediment Guidance Document to the Washington State Department of Ecology.
VAPOR INTRUSION
PIONEER project managers have successfully negotiated site-specific groundwater-to-indoor air screening levels that are being used to establish preliminary vapor intrusion mitigation zones for a large, former manufacturing site in California. A targeted multi-media sampling evaluation is being conducted to identify specific areas of concern where vapor intrusion mitigation can be integrated with site cleanup and redevelopment plans.
MTCA ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Chris Waldron has been selected by the Washington State Department of Ecology to participate in the newly-formed Sediment Cleanup Advisory Committee for 2011 and 2012. Mr. Waldron will provide input regarding the Sediment Management Standards decision framework as Ecology develops draft rule language. Mr. Waldron has been involved in past Ecology Advisory Groups (e.g., the MTCA Rule Revision and MTCA/SMS Integration, and the MTCA Rule Revision and MTCA/SMS Integration Vapor Workgroup) and looks forward to actively participating in the rule revision process.
